1 June 2026 – The Zomi Political Coordination Council/Zomi Revolutionary Army-Eastern Command (ZPCC/ZRA-EC) announced on 31 May that civilians displaced by conflict in Tonzang township, Chin State, may return to their homes without restriction starting 1 June 2026.
Residents of Tonzang town and nearby villages were displaced by fighting between Chin resistance forces and the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military-aligned forces, including ZRA-EC.
According to ZRA-EC, the group and SSPC forces have regained control of Tonzang town and surrounding areas following recent military operations. The town had previously been under the administration of Chin resistance forces since 23 May 2024, before being recaptured in May 2026.
ZRA-EC Commander-in-Chief General Pu Zo Thang said displaced residents are now free to return to their respective homes.
The organization also stated that it will resume and strengthen administrative functions in areas under its control, with plans to focus on public security, stability, and the social and economic development of Tonzang township. – Reporting by Daniel
