30 May 2026 – Mr. Tha Cung Lian, a native of Tlangkhua village in Thantlang township, Chin State, remains missing after reportedly falling into the Tlawng River in Aizawl, Mizoram State, on 29 May.

According to local and family sources, the incident occurred at around 5:00-5:30 pm while he was fishing in the river. He had gone to the river with his son and son-in-law, and was fishing some distance away from them when he fell into the water and was swept away by the current. They immediately searched for him but were unable to locate him.

At around 6:00 pm, members of the Khatla Branch Young Mizo Association (YMA) and youth from Carson Baptist Church (CBC) joined the search and rescue operation. Volunteers remained at the site overnight and resumed the search on 30 May, but no trace of him had been found at the time of reporting.

Search teams believe he may have been carried downstream by the river current. Experienced divers and swimmers from Sairang are being called in to assist with the ongoing operation.

Mr. Ṭha Cung Lian lived with his wife and children and was among those who had relocated to Aizawl due to the ongoing conflict in Myanmar. Search efforts by the Khatla YMA and Carson Baptist Church youth continue, with plans to expand operations once additional water-rescue specialists arrive. – Reporting by Daniel
