1 June 2026 — Theft and burglary incidents have increased in Kanpetlet township, Chin State as some individuals have taken advantage of the displacement of residents caused by ongoing military offensives by the Myanmar military.
In response to the growing number of theft cases, the Kanpetlet Township People’s Administration Team (PAT) issued a local night curfew order on 30 May 2026.
Due to continued military operations by the junta during the ongoing conflict, many residents of Kanpetlet town have relocated to safer areas and abandoned their homes temporarily. Taking advantage of these vacant houses, groups of individuals have reportedly broken into homes and stolen valuable belongings.
According to the Administrative Order No. (5/2026), residents have been instructed to remain in their homes or shelters during nighttime hours.
The order also strictly prohibits unauthorised movement in public areas and any form of public gathering without prior permission.
Under the new regulation, a curfew has been imposed throughout Kanpetlet’s town from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am. The order will remain in effect until further notice. The directive was signed and issued by the Township Administrator.
The announcement has been distributed to the Township People’s Police Force Office, the Township Judicial Department, and all wards, village tracts, and village-level People’s Administration Teams.
The Township Administration stated that the measure aims to enhance public safety and maintain law and order in the township. – Reporting by Ben
