30 May 2026 – Mizoram’s Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma hosted the current UFC Flyweight Champion Joshua Van for tea at his office on Friday during the fighter’s visit to Mizoram.

Welcoming Van, the Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for the visit and said the champion’s remarkable achievements have become a significant source of inspiration for Mizo youth. He also conveyed his best wishes for Van’s stay in the state.

The meeting was attended by Sports Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar and MLA Lt. Col. Clement Lalhmingthanga.

Speaking at the gathering, Van emphasized his connection with Mizoram and its people. “The Mizo people should know that they now have their own UFC Champion,” he said. “I consider Mizoram my home, and I regard the people here as my brothers and sisters.” He also thanked the Chief Minister for taking time from his busy schedule to meet him.

Van’s visit has drawn considerable public attention, with many in Mizoram celebrating both his sporting achievements and his ties to the wider Mizo-Chin-Kuki, or Zohnahthlak, community. Observers note that his arrival comes at a time when sentiments surrounding inter-Zohnahthlak relationships have faced some strain.

An ethnic Chin, Van is widely admired in Mizoram as both a global sports icon and a figure with cultural and ethnic connections to the region. Supporters hope his visit and message of unity will strengthen goodwill and foster closer bonds across the broader Zohnahthlak community. – Reporting by Daniel
