16 June 2026 – A ward administrator in Aung Thitsa Ward, Kalay town, Sagaing Region, was detained for about five days by the Regional Military Command (RMC) after allegedly arresting and beating the son of a senior officer of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military during a forced conscription operation.

Local residents said the administrator mistakenly detained the officer’s son during recruitment activities in the vicinity of Regional Military Command, and the incident led to his detention before he was released on 14 June.

Residents also reported that forced conscription and porter arrests have intensified in Kalay town, carried out by SSPC troops, police, Pyusawhti (Pro-SSPC militia), and other affiliated groups, increasing fear among locals.

Separately, a motorcycle sidecar driver who transports students was also reportedly arrested during the same period.#
