KHAMPAT, Kalay Township, 4 June 2026 – Military aircraft operated by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) conducted a significant airstrike on Khampat town in Sagaing Region early this morning, dropping 25 bombs on the area.
According to local reports, the operation, which occurred at approximately 2:30 am, involved both jet fighters and a Y-12 aircraft. The strikes specifically targeted the vicinity of a former SSPC military base on the Khampat No. 2 side of town.
Khampat, located south of Kalay town, has been under the control of resistance forces since they captured the area. Following the loss of the town, the former SSPC military base had been vacated by regime forces, suggesting the airstrikes may have been a preemptive measure or a strategic attempt to degrade resistance-held positions.
As of this report, the full extent of the damage is still being assessed. Local leaders and community sources have not yet been able to confirm the number of civilian casualties or the level of destruction to residential property and infrastructure.
The attack on Khampat fits a broader pattern of SSPC air operations aimed at reclaiming territory and suppressing resistance control across Chin State and adjacent regions. Recent security updates have highlighted a marked increase in the SSPC’s reliance on air power, including heavy Y-12 airstrikes, in response to tactical setbacks and the loss of ground control in townships such as Falam, Kanpetlet, and Matupi.
The security environment in the region remains highly volatile, with ongoing fighting frequently leading to forced displacement and infrastructure damage. Organizations monitoring the conflict have consistently documented the use of indiscriminate airstrikes and shelling against non-military sites throughout the region.
Residents in the area are advised to remain vigilant as the security situation continues to evolve. Further details regarding the casualties and damage from today’s bombing will be updated as information becomes available. – Reporting by Daniel
