18 June 2026 – Relief supplies sent by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military for the reconstruction of Falam town in Chin State arrived on the evening of 17 June.
The cargo was transported from Kalay town in Sagaing Region to Falam town by a 12-wheel truck and reportedly included 25 tons of rice, 371 containers of cooking oil, 2,150 corrugated roofing sheets, 9 steel plates, 1 package of washers, 130 bags of cement, 10 tons of medical supplies, and 382 bundles of books.
The shipment included rice donated by China under the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) program, which had been flown from Yangon to Kalay by SSPC military aircraft on 31 May. The SSPC said the delivery was intended to support recovery efforts through the provision of food, construction materials, and other essential items.
According to SSPC statements, the assistance is intended for government employees and residents who have returned to areas under its control. In addition to Falam town, the goods are expected to be distributed to the nearby towns of Tedim and Tonzang.
The deliveries follow the SSPC military’s recapture of Falam town on 25 April and Tonzang on 19 May from Chin resistance forces, after which it began sending larger quantities of aid to the area.
However, it remains unclear whether the materials will be used as intended and whether they will reach the targeted beneficiaries. Local sources said close monitoring is needed to verify that the assistance is delivered to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other civilians from Tedim, Falam, and Tonzang townships who fled the conflict and have recently begun returning to their homes. – Reporting by Daniel
