16 June 2026 – A landslide has blocked a key road connecting Gangaw township in Magway Region and Rezua town in Matupi township, Chin State, disrupting transportation along one of the region’s main road corridors.

According to local sources, the latest landslide occurred between Lawngva and Pangva villages on the Gangaw–Rezua road, forcing a temporary closure of the route.

Salai Thomas, Road Maintenance Coordinator of the Zotung Federal Council, said the road sustained significant damage and the road clearance operations will begin on the morning of 17 June, and access is expected to be restored once debris is removed.

The incident follows previous landslides along the Gangaw–Aik Car road, including at the 46-mile section, after weeks of heavy rainfall. Ongoing rain and unstable ground conditions have continued to increase the risk of further landslides across the area.

The Gangaw–Rezua road is a vital transportation link connecting southern and northern parts of Chin State, including the Lautu and Zophei areas, and extending toward Thantlang township.

The route plays an important role in the movement of passengers, trade, humanitarian assistance, and essential supplies between Chin State and central Myanmar.

The closure is expected to affect travel and the transportation of goods across several parts of Chin State as the rainy season continues to bring heavy rainfall and an increased risk of landslides. – Reporting by Ben
