17 June 2026 – The Zotung Federal Council has released photographs documenting extensive road repairs on major roads across the Zotung region and announced new traffic regulations to protect road infrastructure during the rainy season in Zotung area, Matupi township, Chin State.
According to an official statement issued on 16 June, road repairs began in February 2026 and continued for more than four months using heavy machinery. The repairs were undertaken after continuous rainfall during the 2025 monsoon season caused significant damage to key transportation routes.
It also stated that road maintenance faced financial challenges due to rising fuel prices, but repair work continued to keep roads passable before the 2026 rainy season. The total cost of road repair and maintenance reportedly exceeded MMK 200 million (200,000,000 kyats).
To reduce further road damage, the local council announced several regulations for freight and passenger vehicles. Trucks and buses are prohibited from using chain-wrapped tyres, while freight vehicles must not exceed their designated load limits.
In addition, 10-wheel and 12-wheel trucks will be restricted from travelling beyond Ramsi Village from 20 June through August, with further decisions to be made depending on weather and road conditions.
The council also called on residents and transport operators to support ongoing road maintenance efforts and comply with the new regulations to help ensure safe and reliable transportation throughout the region. – Reporting by Ben
