3 March 2026 – Joint defence forces in Chin State successfully intercepted two separate military resupply airdrops intended for State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) troops in Falam township, yesterday and on 1 March.
The operations, conducted by local resistance groups including the Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) and the Chin National Army (CNA), highlight the severe logistical difficulties faced by the SSPC as it attempts to retake Falam town.
In a key action yesterday, the joint forces seized a SSPC Y-12 aircraft airdrop between Lumbang and Valung villages following heavy fighting. They recovered rations and nine 60mm mortar shells by 5:00 pm.
This interception comes amid an ongoing four-month offensive by the SSPC, which has resulted in heavy casualties and forced them to rely on air-dropping essential supplies and weaponry.
Separately, on 1 March, CNDF and CNA troops also seized weapons and rations airdropped by two SSPC aircraft (a Y-12 and an L410 UVP-E20) in the eastern part of Falam township.
The aircraft, from Tada-U and Magway Air Forces, dropped 101 bundles containing supplies such as 5.56mm and 7.62mm ammunition, 60mm and 120mm mortar shells, drone equipment, and rations.
Frontline sources report that SSPC troops were reluctant to retrieve the dropped supplies due to the high risk of attack from local resistance forces. The joint forces confirmed the recovery of 60mm mortar shells and other items from this second drop.
Currently, one SSPC offensive column is entrenched near Khuangli and Sumhrang villages in Falam township, with a reinforcement column positioned between Taingen village and Falam town. – Reporting by Daniel
