2 March 2026 — A monastery and nearly 30 civilian homes were damaged after the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military forces shelled Dar Sam village, an Asho Chin village in Aunglan township, Magway Region.

According to local news and Information Collection in Aunglan Township, the shelling occurred between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm on 1 March.

SSPC Military forces reportedly fired approximately 20 artillery rounds, some of which landed and exploded in the village, causing significant damage.

Local sources reported that the village monastery, including its dining hall, and approximately 27 civilian homes were damaged or destroyed by the explosions.

Residents said military forces conducted drone surveillance over the village before launching the shelling. Villagers were able to flee in advance, and no civilian casualties were reported. However, some livestock were killed.

Although no clashes were reported in the area, the shelling forced thousands of civilians from Dar Sam village and nearby communities to flee to safer locations.

In January, airstrikes in Tapkone and Wankone villages in Aunglan township caused civilian casualties and damage to homes and buildings. Following the recent shelling, residents expressed concern over the risk of further military attacks, including possible airstrikes. – Reporting by Ben
