16 July 2026 — The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) launched a series of coordinated airstrikes near Kanpetlet township in Chin State and southern Saw township in the Magway Region in the evening today, signaling a further escalation of military operations in the area.
Local sources reported that the strikes involved both jet fighters and a Y-12 bomber. At approximately 6:54 p.m. and 7:08 p.m., a fighter jet from Tada-U Air Base conducted two bombing runs, dropping a total of four bombs near Kanpetlet.
And at approximately 8:00 p.m., the same aircraft targeted southern Saw township with two additional bombing runs, dropping another four bombs.
Throughout the evening, a Y-12 bomber conducted persistent aerial attacks over southern Saw township, completing approximately five bombing runs.
As of this reporting, there have been no confirmed details regarding civilian casualties or the extent of material damage, largely due to ongoing communication disruptions in the region.
Records indicate that Kanpetlet, along with neighboring towns like Mindat and Matupi, has faced repeated airstrikes and artillery shelling since the SSPC launched offensives in the area in late May.
Military operations in this corridor have frequently combined ground troop movements with reconnaissance drones, supply drops by Y-12 aircraft, and heavy jet fighter strikes.
