The peoples’ demonstration against the military regime in Burma continues amid the military government uses of various violent forces against the ongoing protesters. Not only in Rangoon and Mandalay , the demonstrations against the ruling military dictatorship go on in various cities including Hakha, the capital of Chin State.
The military regime used its forces to crack down on peaceful protesters led by the Buddhist monks in Yangon on Wednesday. Troops fired warning shots, tear gas at the crowd and beat some protesters including monks and civilians.
London, UK: Burma has been isolated from the outside world by the military regime for decades and so has further been Chin State within the country. Burma’s military dictatorship is internationally condemned and ill-famed for its brutality in practicing human rights abuses against its own peoples. Yet, little is exposed and known about the Chin people and their long sufferings from Burma’s junta. Many Chin people fled their homeland to various countries near and far.
The biggest anti-junta protest ever since the student-led 1988 uprising continued in Yangon amid warnings and threats of clampdown from the military government. The escalating yet peaceful demonstration led by the Buddhist monks was joined by supporters including university students and local people as well as Buddhist nuns.
Some said history is repeating in Burma after 1988 uprising broke out 19 years ago. The current Burma ‘s uprising led by the monks gain it momentum last week as thousands of Burmese laymen joined and supported the demonstrations, the biggest mass demonstrations in Burma after 1988 pro-democracy uprising.
