2 June 2026 – Eight tons of rice, provided by China under the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) program, arrived in Kalay town on 31 May 2026.
The shipment is slated for immediate distribution across the towns of Falam, Tedim, and Tonzang in Chin State, according to the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC).
The aid is intended to support local government employees and residents who have recently returned to these areas. The shipment was transported from Yangon via SSPC military aircraft, with the Myanmar military authorities stating that logistical arrangements are being expedited to ensure the aid reaches the respective townships as rapidly as possible.
The arrival of this consignment underscores the fragile humanitarian situation across Chin State.
Recent months have been marked by a shifting security environment, with Falam and Tonzang towns being brought back under SSPC military control on 25 April and 19 May respectively.
Meanwhile, residents displaced from Tedim due to reports of potential armed conflict have begun returning home, raising the immediate need for food security and essential supplies.
Beyond the initial rice delivery, SSPC officials have indicated that additional aid—including construction materials, further food supplies, and general relief items—is being prepared for deployment to these areas.
Ongoing challenges, including logistical bottlenecks and the broader displacement crisis across the region, remain significant hurdles for humanitarian efforts.
Meanwhile, airstrikes and ground attacks by the SSPC troops continued in other parts of Chin State. – Reporting by Daniel
