11 March 2009 – Aizawl: A Chin villager was summarily executed by Indian rebels for suspicion of being an informer for the Indian security forces, a local Chin villager whose name is held anonymous informed Chinland Guardian yesterday.

The Burmese military stationed in the central part of Chin State recently ordered the villagers to provide food rations enough for them to feed their troops through the rainy season from June to October 2009, Chinland Guardian has learnt.

A fire believed to be started by a mentally challenged man destroyed a total of 26 houses at Leidaw village in famine-hit Chin State around midnight on 25 April, leaving the residents ‘homeless’ but no casualties have been reported.

The SPDC’s local authority has ordered villages in Thantlang Township, Chin State to donate 12-feet long wood planks for a pagoda being constructed at Lungler village near the Indian-Burmese border, sources disclosed.

Chin Human Rights Organisation (CHRO) has urged Kuala Lumpur-based UNHCR to take immediate action on behalf of detained Chin refugees and asylum seekers against the ongoing mistreatment and abuses inflicted upon migrants from Burma by the Malaysian authorities.

9 April 2009: A meeting inclusive of all major Burmese opposition alliances last week on the Thai-Burma border collectively said they are on principle opposed to the junta-planned election in 2010, saying that not rejecting the election would amount to approving a seriously flawed constitution that was passed in what is widely viewed as a rigged referendum in May of 2008.

The Chin people stranded as refugees in India’s Delhi are in ‘extremely poor’ conditions with very limited access to humanitarian relief and in serious need of effective protection and services, a report released by Chin Human Rights Organisation (CHRO) said today.
