28 June 2026 — State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) forces carried out two consecutive, targeted airstrikes on Khampat town, Sagaing Region on the day university entrance examination results were announced nationwide.

The morning operation involved two Yak-130 fighter jets operating from Mandalay Tada-U Air Base. Monitoring groups confirmed multiple strikes occurring in rapid succession at 8:00 am, 8:05 am, 8:10 am, and 8:15 am. The aircraft reportedly returned to base by 8:43 am after completing the sorties.

These events are part of an intensifying pattern of military activity in the region. Earlier this month, on 4 June, SSPC aircraft dropped approximately 25 bombs on Khampat town using a combination of jet fighters and Y-12 aircraft.

More recently, on 21 and 22 June, repeated strikes targeted both Khampat and the neighboring village of Kanan. These attacks resulted in the death of 34-year-old civilian Lalpanmawia, a Mizo resident of Kanan, and caused significant damage to residential infrastructure and livestock.

Strategically, Khampat has remained a focal point of resistance control since being captured by NUG-allied forces in late 2023. The ongoing aerial campaign reflects a persistent military effort to reclaim territory and suppress resistance positions along the critical Kalay-Tamu highway, a vital trade route near the India-Myanmar border. – Reporting by Daniel
