29 June 2026 – An airstrike conducted by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military hit Malsawm village, located in Hakha township, Chin State, at approximately 4:00 pm yesterday.
The attack, which reportedly targeted the village hospital, resulted in damage to nearby residential homes rather than the medical facility itself.
There have been no confirmed civilian deaths or injuries, as residents, including those at the hospital at the time, were able to seek safety.
This strike follows a period of heightened military activity in the region. On 26 June, only 48 hours prior to the Malsawm incident, SSPC military forces carried out bombing raids against Chinland Defence Force-Hakha (CDF-Hakha) positions in Hakha township, resulting in the deaths of five resistance fighters and left several others injured.
This incident is consistent with a broader and deeply concerning trend of SSPC military conduct across Chin State. Documentation from recent months highlights a systematic reliance on indiscriminate air and drone attacks by state military forces. These airstrikes have frequently hit non-military sites, including schools, religious halls, and community infrastructure, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Recent reports from local Chin media and human rights groups emphasize that this aerial campaign—which has previously heavily impacted Mindat, Matupi, and Thantlang townships—continues to force civilians to flee their homes and disrupts vital local services.
While local outlets, including the Chin Cable Network Channel and The Chin Post, have provided initial reports on the Malsawm village incident, the full extent of the damage remains under independent verification. As security conditions in Hakha township remain volatile, further updates are expected as information becomes available from the ground. – Reporting by Daniel
