31 March 2011: Burma army soldiers patrolling in Falam and Thantlang Townships of Chin State forced local villagers to contribute their domestic animals for military rations in March 2011, Chin Human Rights Organisation’s source said.

31 March 2011 – KUALA LUMPUR: Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) has urged authorities to release Burmese refugees which do not carry the UNHCR cards but of non-governmental organizations which are prepared to stand as guarantors.

30 March 2011: Former Prime Minister Thein Sein, leader of junta-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), was sworn in as the new president of Burma this morning, outwardly ending the military’s decades-long rule.

28 March 2011: The Malaysian Immigration carried out daylight raids in parts of Kuala Lumpur, arresting more than 20 Chin refugees in Kuchai Lama and Jalan Pudu wards on 23 and 24 March respectively.

27 March 2011: The United Nations Human Rights Council on Friday renewed for another year the mandate of Tomas Ojea Quintana, the independent rights expert entrusted to investigate the situation of human rights in Burma. But the world’s highest rights body also ‘strongly condemned’ the ongoing systematic violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms in military-ruled southeast Asian country.

27 March 2011 – KUALA LUMPUR: An international actress, Michelle Yeoh revealed that she had read almost 50 books to play the role of Burma’s democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, in a forthcoming Hollywood biopic film The Lady.

24 March 2011: Fifteen Chin refugee families, a total of 58 members, are camping out in makeshift shelters in an open space behind the UNHCR Office in Delhi, India after they were evicted from their quarters by the local Indian landlord yesterday.
