28 May 2026 — The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) has intensified military operations across Kyaukhtu, Saw township, and surrounding areas, involving artillery shelling, airstrikes, troop movements, and aerial supply missions.

According to a local source, a howitzer positioned at Kyaukhtu A.M.T. 368 fired heavy artillery toward the eastern part of Mindat town at approximately 12:30 pm, striking one location twice.

Throughout the day, frequent activity of scout aircraft and drones was observed, raising concerns over possible continued airstrikes in Mindat and surrounding areas in the coming days.

In addition, a jet fighter from Aela Air Base conducted an airstrike on a location in Kanpetlet town at around 3:20 pm, dropping four bombs in two sorties.

In a similar timeframe, another jet fighter departing from Tada-U Air Base carried out an airstrike in Matupi township.

Further details regarding damage and possible casualties remain unclear at the time of reporting.

Later, at approximately 5:30 pm, a Y-12 transport aircraft from Magway delivered ammunition and supplies near the Saw–Kanpetlet border area. Earlier in the day, a Y-8 aircraft also dropped supply packages in Kyaukhtu.

Meanwhile, a military column of around 300 troops that moved south from Kyaukhtu in the morning was reported to be approaching Kan Chaung village by evening, located approximately half a mile away.

It was also reported that a wounded battalion commander, along with more than 50 soldiers, was evacuated from Kyaukhtu airfield via a Y-8 aircraft for medical treatment.

Separately, sources indicate that a larger military column of over 1,000 troops stationed in Kyaukhtu is expected to advance toward Mindat by the end of the month.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and closely monitor developments, particularly regarding troop movements and potential airstrikes in the coming days. – Reporting by Ben
