SSPC military checkpoints tightened in Kalay, residents urged to exercise caution

5 June 2026 – The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military personnel were reported to be conducting inspections and security checks near Tada-U Bridge, at the intersection of Bogyoke Road and Sanpya Road in Kalay town this morning.

According to local sources, the checks began sometime between 10:40 am and 11:15 am and were still ongoing at the time of reporting.

Local media outlets and residents warned the public to avoid the area if possible and to exercise caution when traveling through the town due to security concerns.

The reports also urged residents to notify local media if they observe SSPC military movements, forced porter recruitment, or SSPC military conscription activities in the area.

Local sources noted that Kalay town has previously seen arrests and inspections linked to SSPC military recruitment and conscription campaigns. – Reporting by Daniel
