23 June 2026 — The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out at least 440 airstrikes on Mindat township in Chin State between 11 April and 22 June 2026.
Most of the attacks targeted civilian buildings and infrastructure.
Chin Human Rights Organization reported on 22 June that Mindat town and the surrounding areas were subjected to 440 airstrikes during the reporting period, with as many as 91 bombs dropped in a single day.
Approximately 45 per cent of all airstrikes occurred within a four-day period, while a total of 168 aerial military operations were recorded over the two-month period.
According to CHRO, most of the attacks were conducted using Y-12 aircraft. The organization stated that many of the strikes appeared to be indiscriminate, targeting Mindat town and surrounding civilian areas rather than clearly identified military objectives.
Since mid-May, the Myanmar military has been conducting major offensives against Mindat and Kanpetlet townships, resulting in ongoing clashes with Chin resistance forces. While many local residents have fled the fighting, military aircraft have continued to bomb residential areas and civilian structures that remain in the conflict zones.
CHRO expressed concern that the intense air campaign against largely depopulated towns, villages, communities, and civilian infrastructure may constitute collective punishment and retaliation against local populations perceived to support the resistance movement.
Local sources and military analysts reported that airstrikes have targeted not only military positions but also villages, homes, churches, and other civilian buildings, causing widespread damage to infrastructure.
Meanwhile, residents from southern parts of Chin State and approximately 25 villages in Saw township and surrounding areas of the Yaw region have been displaced for more than a month.
Thousands of displaced civilians, including children and elderly people, are facing severe humanitarian challenges and urgently require assistance. The situation has been further exacerbated by military restrictions on the movement of people, goods, and supplies. – Reporting by Ben
