22 May 2026 – Zomi National Party (ZNP) Member of Parliament (MP) Pau Lun Min Thang met with over 300 displaced civilians in Kalay town, Sagaing Region, who were preparing to return to Tedim town in Chin State, providing them with encouragement and food assistance.
The meeting is part of the ZNP’s concentrated efforts to support displaced civilians and restore civil administration in Chin State, following the recent recapture of Tonzang town on 19 May by a joint force of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military and the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA).
In the days immediately following the recapture of Tonzang—a town that had been under Chin resistance control for nearly two years—the ZNP announced plans to reopen key governmental departments. These include government offices, schools, and hospitals in Tonzang town that were suspended due to the conflict.
ZNP Tonzang township MP Zoheisa Zam Dal is currently consulting with local residents regarding reconstruction efforts, and the Chin State Parliament is expected to reconvene on 2 June.
Further demonstrating the party’s administrative outreach, ZNP General Secretary Deric Kam Za Al and MP Pau Lun Min Thang visited Khaikam town on 22 May. They met with local residents and departmental officials to discuss community concerns, future plans, and administrative matters.
Despite these moves to restore administration in Tonzang, which is strategically important due to its border with India’s Manipur State and its use as a major supply route by resistance groups, reports indicate that many displaced residents remain hesitant to return due to ongoing concerns about security and recent fighting.
Pau Lun Min Thang is a prominent Zomi politician and former Minister of Social Affairs for Chin State in Myanmar. Representing the Zomi National Party (ZNP), he has campaigned for assembly seats in the Tedim and Tonzang constituencies. In recognition of his extensive service to the Zomi community, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humanity in 2025. – Reporting by Daniel
