5 February 2026 – Heavy fighting broke out between the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) and Chin revolutionary forces near Valung village and the Pine (Htinshu) camp in Falam township, Chin State, on 4 February.
The SSPC has been clashing with the joint Chin forces since January 2026, following the arrival of SSPC reinforcements from Kalay town, Sagaing Region. SSPC forces are reportedly relying on frequent airstrikes and drone attacks due to heavy casualties.
“Airstrikes are a daily occurrence, at least two to three times. Yesterday evening, two jet fighters dropped bombs three times on the western side of Pine camp. Currently, fighting is concentrated between Valung village and the western side. A drone bombing also damaged one house,” a local resident with knowledge of the military situation stated.
The previous day, on 3 February, intense fighting led to the deaths of at least 36 SSPC soldiers, including a major. The Chin forces also reportedly captured an SSPC-occupied camp outpost, seizing an estimated 30 heavy and small arms along with a large amount of ammunition.
The ongoing clashes are a result of the SSPC launching multiple large-scale offensives from Kalay town since late October 2025, using the Kalay-Taingen and Kalay-Webula Roads, in an attempt to retake Falam town. – Reporting by Daniel
