30 October 2025 – The Chin National League for Democracy (CNLD) today issued a public statement clarifying that four individuals currently contesting in Myanmar’s upcoming elections are not affiliated with the party.

The statement explicitly named Mr. No Than Kap, Mr. Zozam (also known as Zam Cin Pau), Mr. Salai Nhagepi, and Mr. Van Hmun Lian, asserting that they hold no association with the Chin political party, which previously participated in elections in Chin State prior to the 2021 coup.

According to the CNLD, Mr. No Than Kap formally resigned from the party in May 2021. Mr. Zozam, Mr. Salai Nhagepi (also known as Thian Uk Thang), and Mr. Van Hmun Lian were reportedly dismissed in 2021 due to deviations from party principles.

The CNLD, a party formed from the merger of three Chin political entities, was subsequently deregistered by the junta-controlled Union Election Commission after declining to reapply under the current military administration.

Reports indicate that Mr. No Than Kap, Mr. Salai Nhagepi, and Mr. Van Hmun Lian are slated to contest the upcoming election under the banner of the New Chinland Congress Party (NCCP). Meanwhile, Mr. Zozam will reportedly run with the Shan and Nationalities Democratic Party (White Tiger) in the Yangon Region.

In its statement, the CNLD reiterated its steadfast commitment to the principles of equality, self-determination, and the establishment of a federal democratic union, emphasizing its continued alignment with the will of the people.

The Union Election Commission of Myanmar has announced that the initial phase of elections will take place on 28 December 2025, reportedly in the two townships of Hakha and Tedim only.

In Chin State, elections are slated for Tonzang, Tedim, Falam, Hakha, and Thantlang townships.

According to the Election Commission, 28 seats will be contested by political parties participating in this regime-planned election. These parties include the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), New Chinland Congress Party (NCCP), Zomi National Party (ZNP), Khumi National Party (KNP), and People’s Pioneer Party. – Reporting by Benjamin
