Chin refugees in Malaysia clean neighbourhood

21 April 2016 — About 100 Chin refugees provided a voluntary community cleaning service for two hours last Sunday, picking up rubbish in Cheras Alam Jaya, Kuala Lumpur.

The group cleaned litter dumped by the streets, and cleared the ditches between buildings in the vicinity they are staying as refugees from Burma.

Thawng Lian, a Chin refugee team member, said that the Chin community had agreed in the general meeting led by the Chin Christian Fellowship in Cheras to clean the neighbourhood at least twice a year.

He said that the Chin refugees had been providing this kind of cleaning activities to their residing areas for years, according to the Hakha Post.

It is estimated that about 60,000 Chin refugees and asylum seekers are still stranded in Malaysia.#
