13 February 2026 – A police vehicle returning from a Union Day ceremony was targeted in an urban operation by the Chinland Defence Force-Hakha (CDF-Hakha) in Hakha town, Chin State, around 7:00 pm yesterday.
The attack resulted in the immediate death of three individuals, including a senior SSPC official and police personnel, and left five others with severe injuries. The night operation took place in Pyidawthar Ward.
The CDF-Hakha Support Team claimed the operation was a response to the alleged brutality and illegal extortion by the Police Commissioner, who they accuse of forcing subordinates to extort at least 3 million kyats daily from the public as tributes to the Tactical Commander. The CDF-Hakha stated the operation was carried out on the evening of Union Day for this reason.
Local sources confirmed the clashes, with one resident telling the Chinland Guardian that his family was terrified by the firing and hid in the kitchen for hours.
Following the shooting, the SSPC’s tactical base on Rung Mountain in Hakha town retaliated by firing heavy weapons indiscriminately.
The CDF-Hakha also issued a warning, stating that more intense shootings and bombings will be carried out if the alleged illegal money collection from peaceful residents of Hakha town continues. – Reporting by Daniel
