13 February 2026 — Seven civilians, including an infant, were killed and at least nine others injured after the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) conducted airstrikes on residential areas in Mrauk-U and Kyauktaw towns, Rakhine State, on the night of 12 February.
Initial reports from local sources indicate the attacks occurred around 9:10 pm on Union Day. Aircraft reportedly dropped bombs simultaneously on the Central Market Ward in Mrauk-U and Paik Thae Ward in Kyauktaw.
In Mrauk-U, an infant and both parents—a displaced family who were caretakers at the Wesali Hotel—were killed, and at least seven other civilians were injured. The family had fled conflict in Byine Phyu village, Sittwe township.
Four civilians were killed and nine injured in Kyauktaw’s Paik Thae Ward.
The deceased were identified as Ms Ma Saw Hla, 61, and Ms Aye Nu, 53, both displaced from Byine Phyu village, along with local residents Mr San Win, 23, and Mr Nyi Che, 31. Several victims were identified as internally displaced persons.
The airstrikes damaged or destroyed homes and other residential buildings in both towns, with residents reporting widespread fear and significant casualties. – Reporting by Ben
