Open Arms: New Christian Body Set to Begin Outreach

31 January 2011: The Global Chin Christian Fellowship (GCCF) is gearing up efforts to reach out to different communities in order to find ways to improve greater understanding and cooperation amongst Chin Christians worldwide.

The new Christian fellowship aims, among many others, to promote tolerance, harmony and a sense of united purpose through enhancing mutual respect and understanding among the Chins, to work for the physical and spiritual development of Chin communities, and to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

The Chairman of GCCF Central Organising Committee, Rev. Dr. Stephen Hre Kio said: “We, the Chins, may not survive in this modern environment much longer, if we remain divided and being hostile to each other. We are a small minority in the land among an overwhelming majority of different culture; we have only a slight chance of survival only if we are united; and we may have a good chance to survival if we are all Christians and be united in the Lord.”

With its current 17 members of Central Organising Committee, GCCF strives to invite all Chin Christian churches and organisations to become a part of the fellowship for ‘strengthening cooperation and promoting reconciliation rooted in the biblical concept of love, peace and justice’ among Chin Christian communities around the globe.

The Secretary of GCCF, Rev. Dr. Chum Awi said: “We would like GCCF to become a common ground on which all of us, regardless of denominations and tribal backgrounds including our brothers and sisters living in Bangladesh and India can come together to share and claim that we are one in the ‘Body of Christ’.”

GCCF was formed in November 2010 with the aims of establishing a common platform on which to forge  cooperation and collaboration, and sharing efforts and resources for effective and far-reaching evangelism towards the betterment of the Chin people as a whole, according to a preliminary report released today.
