21 June 2026 – Five internally displaced persons (IDPs) were killed and at least ten others injured after a State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) airstrike targeted a displacement site in Kyindwe town, Kanpetlet township.

A statement released by the Kanpetlet Township People’s Administration Team said that the attack occurred at approximately 11:30 pm on 19 June, when military aircraft dropped bombs on an area where displaced civilians had sought refuge.

The team also said there had been no active fighting in the vicinity at the time of the strike.

Among those killed were three men and two women, while at least ten other civilians sustained injuries, the statement said.

The Kanpetlet Township People’s Administration Team condemned the attack, stating that the bombing deliberately targeted a civilian shelter despite the absence of armed clashes in the area.

Local admin leading members also reported that SSPC military columns are currently advancing toward Kanpetlet town and that airstrikes on civilian-populated areas have continued in recent days, raising concerns for the safety of local residents and displaced communities.

In response to the heightened threat, local teams urged residents to construct bomb shelters and to take immediate refuge whenever air raid warnings are issued.

The statement noted that Kyindwe town has previously been affected by airstrikes. Bombing attacks carried out on 29 and 30 April 2026 reportedly killed nine civilians and injured three others. – Reporting by Ben
