17 June 2026 – The resistance group known as Kalay Urban Guerrilla (Kalay UG) claims that seven State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) soldiers, including a Warrant Officer Grade II (Deputy Warrant Officer) and a sergeant, were killed and three others captured alive during a series of operations carried out in Kalay town, Sagaing Region, over the past 30 days.
According to a report released by the group today, the casualties resulted from a combination of landmine attacks and urban guerrilla operations targeting SSPC military forces in Kalay town. The group also reported that several other soldiers were wounded during the operations.
Kalay UG said it seized a quantity of military equipment from SSPC, including hand grenades and ammunition, during the attacks.
The group stated that it would continue conducting urban operations in Kalay town while seeking to maximize effectiveness and operational security. It also urged civilians to avoid SSPC military convoys and checkpoints whenever possible, warning that it would not be responsible for any harm resulting from failure to heed the advisory.
Established following the military coup in February 2021, the Kalay Urban Guerrilla Force (KUGF)—alternatively known as the Kalay Urban Guerrilla Unit—is an anti-junta resistance organization operating in Kalaymyo, Sagaing Region. Functioning as a clandestine urban cell, the group utilizes asymmetric warfare strategies to undermine the ruling military junta (Tatmadaw) within the town’s boundaries.
