Mon to hold national assembly in December

23 August 2013: The Mon national assembly is set to take place in the capital city of Moulmein, Mon State in December this year.

The announcement came following a recent formation of the Mon National Congress (MNC) as an organizating committee, led by Mon political parties including the New Mon State Party (NMSP), Mon Democracy Party (MDP) and All Mon Region Democracy Party (AMDP).

Nai Tin Aung, Vice-Chairman of the Mon Democracy Party (MDP), said the seiminar would be held in the first step, which is to be followed by a congress for all Mon nationals in December.

“These are necessary to create our own fate,” Nai Tun Aung was quoted as saying by the Independent Mon News Agency.

The congress, as well as the seminar, which takes place in late September, is aimed to strengthen politics of Mon ethnic nationality and improve economics.

The organizing executive committee of the newly formed MNC is made up of two members from each political party, and nine members from social and overseas organizations.#
