2 October 2025 – The Malaysia-Myanmar Association (MMA) announced yesterday that close to 3,000 undocumented foreigners, including more than 500 Myanmar nationals, were arrested across Malaysia during September.
According to a statement released by the MMA, a total of 2,963 undocumented individuals were apprehended between September 1 and September 30. These arrests were the result of extensive workplace raids and public complaints. Of those detained, 501 were identified as Myanmar nationals. The MMA emphasized that this compiled data represents only what they were able to collect, suggesting that the actual number of arrests on the ground could be significantly higher.
In response to the arrests, the association has also issued a statement offering assistance to individuals facing difficulties. This support includes aid for those currently facing court proceedings, those struggling to secure legal counsel, and those requiring help with prison visits.
Immigration authorities are reportedly intensifying their efforts, conducting surprise inspections at workplaces employing foreign nationals and at their residences. These ongoing operations are leading to the near-daily arrest of undocumented foreigners, including a substantial number of Myanmar citizens. – Reporting by Daniel
