4 June 2026 – Intense fighting has intensified across southern parts of Chin State as the Chin People’s Union (CPU)/Chin People’s Army (CPA) actively resists a major military offensive launched by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) in the Mindat and Kanpetlet townships.

The conflict, which has been escalating since mid-May, represents a critical flashpoint in the ongoing struggle for control in the region.

According to a 4 June statement from the CPU/CPA, the SSPC has deployed approximately 2,000 troops into the area in a coordinated effort to dismantle resistance positions.

The CPA reports that its forces, alongside allied groups, have successfully mounted defensive operations against these ground advances. In response, military forces have increasingly relied on air power, conducting repeated airstrikes utilizing both fighter jets and Y-12 utility aircraft, further endangering the civilian population.

Amid the volatility, the CPU/CPA has issued a formal warning regarding the spread of misinformation on unofficial social media platforms. The organization stated that unverified rumors are fueling public confusion and unnecessary fear.

To maintain public safety and situational awareness, the CPU/CPA urges residents and observers to rely exclusively on official statements issued by authorized organizations.

The townships in the southern areas of Chin State, particularly Mindat and Kanpetlet, have endured sustained military pressure throughout the past year, marked by frequent airstrikes targeting residential areas and infrastructure.

This current offensive is consistent with broader patterns of conflict in the region, where junta-led operations have frequently displaced communities and disrupted local governance.

In response to the deteriorating security environment, the CPU/CPA had previously launched an emergency defense fund in mid-May, appealing to the Chin diaspora for financial contributions to support military and humanitarian resilience.

The organization maintains that it is committed to defending civilians, their property, and ancestral lands “with all available capacity.”

As operations continue, the CPU/CPA has reiterated its call for public support, emphasizing that maintaining organized resistance is vital to protecting the region’s long-term security. – Reporting by Ben
