22 December 2025 – Residents along the Kalay–Tedim–Rih trade route (Myanmar–India border) have installed protest signs opposing the upcoming elections planned by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) elections, according to the Kalay Town People’s Resistance Committee.

The signs read “Do not legitimize killings with your vote”, reflecting local opposition. The committee said residents in urban and SSPC-controlled areas are being pressured to vote, while those in liberated areas are taking safe steps to resist.

The campaign was coordinated with the Zomi Federal Union (ZFU) in Tedim township, with support from other local groups.

The first phase of elections is scheduled for 28 December in Hakha and Tedim townships, and the second phase will take place in Thantlang, Tonzang, and Falam townships.

Sources say at least two SSPC columns are being deployed to regain control of Falam town. – Reporting by Ben
