1 June 2026 — Troops of the Myanmar State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) burned civilian homes and a monastic dining hall in Htin Chaung village, Circle 3 of Mindat township, Chin State, on 30 May, according to local sources.
According to a local source, the military column, which had advanced from Infantry Battalion 368 based in Kyaukhtu, entered Htin Chaung village on 30 May before setting fire to several structures in the village.
The number of homes damaged or destroyed has not yet been confirmed, and local sources are continuing to assess the extent of the losses.
Sources further reported that six military vehicles carrying weapons, ammunition, and drones had reached the Htin Chaung junction area.
Troops involved in the burning reportedly remain stationed in Htin Chaung village, while other units have split from the main force and are preparing to continue their advance toward Mindat.
The military column is reported to have departed from Kan Gyi Village on 29 May as part of an ongoing offensive operation toward Mindat Township.
The destruction of civilian homes and religious facilities is likely to deepen humanitarian concerns and increase displacement risks for communities already affected by the conflict in the area. – Reporting by Ben
