Weapons and ammunition seized near India-Myanmar border

11 May 2026 — Weapons and ammunition were reportedly seized near Saikhumphai village in Mizoram’s Champhai district along the India-Myanmar border, according to local reports.

The operation was carried out by the Assam Rifles after receiving information that weapons and explosives had been hidden in a forest area near the village.

 During a search operation on 9 May, security personnel reportedly discovered the cache buried underground.

Recovered items reportedly included a 60 mm launcher, mortar shells, hand grenades, communication radios, and several improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The seized materials were later handed over to Dungtlang Police Station.Saikhumphai village is located near Leilet village in Falam Township.

Local sources said Assam Rifles had previously carried out similar seizures of hidden weapons and ammunition in the area. – Reporting by Ben
