8 May 2026 – State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) forces carried out airstrikes near Kyaukhtu in the Yaw region and Mindat township in Chin State today, amid intensified military operations across the area, according to local sources.
Initial local reports stated that a jet fighter departing from Tada-U Air Base launched an airstrike on an area near Kyaukhtu town at around 12:47 am.
Another field source indicated that two jet fighters conducted airstrikes, with four bombs over Mindat town at around 7:00 am, targeting the former immigration and fire service offices.
Another separately at around 12:44 pm, a jet fighter from the Tada-U Air Base carried out an airstrike in Mindat town. The aircraft dropped several large bombs, including incendiary bombs, causing a building to catch fire.
Several buildings were damaged during the attacks, although details regarding civilian casualties or injuries had not yet been confirmed at the time of reporting.
On the morning of 8 May, an SSPC reconnaissance drone was observed conducting surveillance flights over areas near the San Taung mountain range, Htin Chaung junction, and forested areas near villages in Saw township, as well as parts of Mindat township in Chin State.
Meanwhile, local sources reported that an SSPC military column of around 500 troops, which had reportedly stayed overnight at Pyusawhtee (pro-SSPC militia) compound in Yagyi Pyin village, crossed Ohn Taw Bridge and continued advancing westward toward Pauk township.
According to local sources, advance units from the SSPC column were also seen entering Pauk town. The troops were reportedly part of a larger military deployment that departed from Pyin Oo Lwin in recent days.
Sources further claimed that the column included a significant number of newly recruited conscripts, although this information could not yet be independently verified.
Residents in areas were urged to remain alert amid concerns over possible further aerial operations.
Local monitoring groups warned civilians across Chin and Yaw areas to closely monitor both aerial threats and ground troop movements and to remain prepared to relocate to safer areas if necessary. – Reporting by Ben
