8 May 2026 – Resistance groups in southern Gangaw township, Magway Region, have announced strict travel restrictions on residents aged between 18 and 35, according to an official statement issued by local administrative and defence bodies.

The measures were introduced by the Travel Scrutiny Committee under the Southern Gangaw Township People’s Administration Team following coordination meetings involving local People’s Administration Teams (Pa-Ah-Pha), People’s Defence Teams (Pa-Ka-Pha), People’s Security Teams (Pa-La-Pha), and resistance forces.

Under the new regulations, men and women aged between 18 and 35 are prohibited from travelling outside the area except for health-related reasons. Individuals seeking permission for medical travel are required to obtain recommendation letters from relevant local resistance bodies.

The restrictions also ban the use of unofficial or smuggling routes and include measures aimed at preventing individuals from using religious reasons to obtain travel permission.

The groups warned that individuals found travelling without permission could face arrest during inspections or at checkpoints. The statement further noted that detainees could be required to undergo military training and subsequently serve with local resistance forces operating in the area.

The announcement also stated that action could be taken against family members or guardians if individuals within the restricted age group were found to have fled through illegal routes. – Reporting by Ben
