1 May 2026 – Military tensions are escalating in Tedim town, Chin State, signaling a potential direct conflict between the People’s Defence Force-Zoland (PDF-Zoland) and the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA).

The ZRA has publicly stated it is preparing to defend Tedim against a potential offensive by PDF-Zoland, a member of the Chin Brotherhood.

According to Zokhankhual, a confrontation could shift from an internal dispute to a direct conflict between forces seen as protecting the Zomi region and those perceived as destabilizing it.

The ZRA emphasizes that its defensive preparations are solely to safeguard the area and the town, not to support the military regime’s State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC).

This rising tension comes amid deep internal division. In March 2026, PDF-Zoland publicly accused the ZRA-Eastern Command (ZRA-EC) of transforming into a proxy force for the SSPC military junta.

PDF-Zoland alleged that ZRA-EC leaders met with SSPC representatives earlier that month to coordinate arms supply and cooperation

PDF-Zoland pointed to alleged evidence of ZRA-EC fighters wearing SSPC uniforms and operating alongside junta troops in Tedim’s LIB 269 base. The ZRA-EC, which operates in northern Chin State, has denied these claims.

The broader context in Chin State remains volatile, with reports of intensified SSPC aerial attacks—including airstrikes on Falam and Kanpetlet townships—causing civilian casualties and displacement, adding to the humanitarian crisis across the region. – Reporting by Daniel
