8 April 2026 – The Hualngoram People’s Organization (HPO) has announced a five-month protection period for birds across the Hualngoram region of Chin State, effective from April to August.
This directive, issued to safeguard bird populations during their critical breeding season, prohibits all hunting, capturing, killing, selling, and consumption of birds.
HPO emphasized that the measure is intended to ensure long-term environmental sustainability and community well-being, calling on the public to support conservation efforts.
Violators of the ban face serious penalties, including the confiscation of their firearms or airguns and a significant fine of 1,000,000 Kyats. Residents are urged to report any violations to HPO authorities. – Reporting by Daniel
