9 April 2026 – The Chinland Defence Force-Thantlang (CDF-Thantlang) has announced its firm commitment to capture all remaining military bases operated by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) across Chin State, including those in Thantlang town.

The pledge was made during a ceremony on 6 April marking the fifth anniversary of the CDF-Thantlang’s establishment.

The group reaffirmed its plan to collaborate with its revolutionary partners to achieve political objectives, establish effective civilian governance, and strengthen unity among the Chin people.

The resistance movement in Chin State intensified since the aftermath of  the 2021 military coup in Myanmar. SSPC forces have increasingly relied on air and drone attacks, which have hit non-military sites.

In 2021, following the military coup, Thantlang town was among the first in the country to suffer indiscriminate attacks and total destruction at the hands of military regime forces. These actions were classified as war crimes and crimes against humanity, eventually resulting in 2023 in the initiation of criminal litigation in the Philippines under universal jurisdiction against the perpetrators, including Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

In October 2025, CDF-Thantlang’s Education Department indefinitely closed all schools in the township due to these air attacks.

In its five-year statement, CDF-Thantlang reported that 23 civilians have been killed and 54 others injured as a result of actions by the SSPC military.

The group paid deep respect to the many resistance members who have sacrificed their lives and bodies during the conflict.

Finally, CDF-Thantlang called on domestic and international supporters, who have provided assistance throughout the five-year period, to continue supporting the movement through financial contributions, expertise, and prayers. – Reporting by Daniel
