9 April 2026 – An internal shooting incident among State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) troops in Taingen village, Tedim township, Chin State, has resulted in the deaths of a Captain and one soldier, according to local sources.
The fatalities, identified as Captain Aung Min Oo (from Light Infantry Battalion 89) and a military engineering soldier, occurred following an exchange of gunfire within their unit.
The bodies were transported from Taingen to a military hospital in Kalay town on the morning of 8 April, and funeral rites were conducted on 9 April at the LIB 228 compound in Kalay.
The incident occurs amidst intensified military activity in the region. SSPC forces are currently attempting to launch operations into Chin State from Kalay town but have sustained significant casualties and frequently been forced to retreat due to repeated attacks by Chin resistance forces.
Taingen village is a key strategic location for the SSPC, controlling the main Kalay-Taingen Road and serving as a major staging area for troop deployments. For instance, approximately 300 troops arrived in January 2026, followed by over 100 reinforcements in February 2026. These deployments have been linked to efforts to secure infrastructure projects and facilitate advances towards Falam and Tedim towns. – Reporting by Daniel
