24 March 2026 — The Zomi Federal Union has issued a public call urging widespread national participation and service in its fight against Myanmar’s military junta, marking five years since the launch of the Spring Revolution.
In a statement released on 24 March, the group said the movement has entered a critical phase in its pursuit of development, self-determination and justice for the Zomi people across “Zogam,” a term used to describe Zomi-inhabited areas.
Describing the effort as vital to the future of the nation, the organization called on all citizens to contribute according to their abilities, framing participation as a shared national responsibility.
The statement urged all adults, regardless of gender, to take part in national service, with residents in Zomi areas encouraged to commit to a minimum of three years. It did not specify the nature of the service, but similar calls in recent years have included administrative, humanitarian and security-related roles.
The appeal also extended to Zomi communities living abroad, encouraging them to support national efforts through any available means.
Since the Myanmar Spring Revolution began, various ethnic and political organizations have increasingly mobilized civilian participation to sustain governance structures, resistance activities and community services in areas outside central military control.
Observers note that such calls reflect both the growing institutionalization of parallel governance systems and the ongoing challenges of resource mobilization in conflict-affected regions. – Reporting by Daniel
