13 January 2026 – The Chin People’s Union (CPU) and its armed wing, the Chin People’s Army (CPA), have officially announced their formation, according to a statement released on Monday.

The announcement said the groups were established to strengthen coordinated political and military leadership among Chin resistance forces following the breakdown of earlier joint structures, including the Chinland Joint Defence Committee (CJDC).

It noted that, under the Chin Brotherhood alliance, Chin resistance groups working with allied forces have brought Kyindwe town and Matupi, Mindat, Kanpetlet, and Falam townships under their control.

The CPU and CPA were formally formed on 15 November 2025 by consolidating resistance organisations from Mindat, Matupi (MRO), Kanpetlet, and the Daai region, the statement said.

The groups stated that they will continue to operate within the Chin Brotherhood framework, oppose military rule, support the Chin people’s right to self-determination, and work towards the establishment of a federal democratic union in cooperation with allied resistance forces. – Reporting by Ben
