Telenor to start construction of cell towers in Chin State
12 July 2014 – Telenor, a telecommunications company from Norway, said that it would begin construction of mobile phone towers in Chin State next month.
Myo Kyaw Thu, of the Telenor Group in Burma, said that the Chin State authority had acknowledged their plans and that work had been underway regarding confirmation of tower locations.
The company last week announced that it would start selling its 1,500-Kyat SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) cards in September and that they would be available for purchase with no pre-registration requirements.
In March this year, it said that a number of cell towers would be constructed across Chin State, the country’s mountainous western state.
Thu travelled to Hakha, the seat of the Chin State government, and continued his trip to Falam last Wednesday, according to the Falam Post.#
