Chin judoka awarded silver in SEA Games

19 December 2013: Kam Cin Pau landed second place in judo in the 27th SEA Games hosted by Burma.

He received a silver medal after having been beaten in the final by his Vietnamese opponent yesterday.

Pau said in the Chin World Media: “I have played with this guy before and he had always lost. But he was really good in the final.”

He added that he was not happy to have lost in the final but it was a boost from a bronze to silver medal.

Out of the 18 selected Chin athletes, only 6 were eventually put through to the games, according to media reports.

Some Chin athletes have complained about the final selection process, saying it was unfair and discriminatory.

The six athletes comprise Mai Aung Ngeain (gold), Mai Yaw Sein Ya (bronze), and Mai Hla Hla San (bronze) in archery, Mai Zung Len Cer (bronze), and Mai Yinhua Thawng Luai (bronze) in karate, and Kam Cin Pau (silver).#
