Chin female karateka won silver medal in Nay Pyi Taw

29 August 2013: Mai Zung Len Cer received a silver medal in the Pre-SEA Games Karatedo Test Match held in Nay Pyi Taw on 28-29 August.

The Chin karateka, daughter of Rev. Don Hre Dun, who gained a black belt in Karate, was awarded for winning the second position in a ceremony at Nay Pyi Taw.

Mai Zung Len Cer said she was still new to the competition and would try her best to improve through experiences.

“I don’t think I am junior in terms of skills to my opponents but experiences actually count. My instructors encouraged me and I feel much better,” Mai Zung Len Cer told the Chin World Media.

She said she would participate as a member of Burma’s selected karate team in an event to be held in Thailand early next month.

Karatedo teams from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and two groups from Burma took part in the Nay Pyi Taw Pre-SEA Games match.

Mai Zung Len Cer, who represented Chin State, won a gold medal in a karatedo competition held at Nay Pyi Taw in June last year.

Born and raised in Falam of Chin State, Mai Zung Len Cer, a mathematics graduate from Kalay University, has one sister and two brothers.#
