Mizoram Government started to arrest Burma rebels

Mizoram Police on Wednesday noon reportedly arrested twelve members of the Chin National Confederation (CNC), one Chin rebel group of Burma in Aizawl, Mizoram State, India.

Mizoram police raided the resident of one CNC members located in Bawngkawn, Aizawl, and captured twelve members of the Organization including its Vice – President, Mr. Fung Kung and the Treasurer, Mr. Van Ling. They are now reportedly detained in the Central Jail, Aizawl, Mizoram. However, the President of the organization, Pu Tial Khar, had been recently sacked on allegation of breaking various provisions of the constitution of the organization.

“Aizawl district Superintendent of Police, L.T. Hrangchal, inform the media that this groups were arrested in connection with foreigner violations and forcibly collecting donations from the Burmese residing in Mizoram,” said David M.H Thangliana, Editor of Newslink daily paper.

CNC recently released a statement in support of the anti-drug campaign of Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) and vowed to prevent the influx of drugs from Burma into Mizoram state, India. The People coming from Burma will be under strict vigilance against drugs trafficking.

The Vice President, Mr. Fung Kung, said in an interview to the Sunday post, Mizoram local paper, that the CNC would probably begin their military operation against the Burma military junta before the next election, one of the step being proposed in the “road map to democracy” by the Junta.

The CNC, which the Mizoram authorities considered just a group of hoodlum and not real insurgent, was established in 1999 and is estimated to have about hundred members.

Meanwhile, on 3rd June the Mizoram government received an order from the Central government of India to crack down Chin National Front (CNF)’s camp “Victoria” in Indo-Burma border, as a pay back time for the Indian government to the Burma military government for keeping its promise to flushed out the India’s North-east rebel groups’ operating from Burma.

Some rebel groups believe that the operation is in the process of materializing the Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) signed between the delegates of India and Burma government in previous year, when the head of State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), Senior General Than Shwe visited India last October.

In the MoU the two countries agreed to have a joint military operation and flushed out the dissident armed groups operating along the Indo-Burma border.
