7 Died, 27 Injured in Bus Accident

13 November, 2009: At least 7 passengers died and 27 injured in a tragic road accident after a local night bus fell into a 155-feet gorge off the road in Mizoram State, India yesterday.

Pi Ni Doi from Hakha, Chin State, Burma, died instantly in the accident and some others seriously injured are said to have been taken to Camphai hospital. There were about 10 Chin passengers on the bus.

A local from Aizawl said: “We have not got all the names of the victims and where they are from yet. The bodies are kept in Camphai town where some relatives of the deceased live and funeral services are held.”

The body of Pi Ni Doi will be taken to Hakha, Chin State after a post-mortem examination is carried today.

The accident took place when the night bus travelling from Farkawn to Aizawl in India’s Mizoram State lost control about 5 km away from Khualeng village due to brake failure.
