14 July 2026 — Residents in Paletwa township, Chin State are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance after days of heavy rainfall triggered widespread flooding across the area, according to local sources.

Flooding caused by continuous rain since 7 July has inundated large numbers of homes in Sami, Pi Stream, Laymyo Stream, Shin Let Wa, and Palet Stream, leaving many families in need of emergency assistance.

According to Khumiland News citing local residents, floodwaters submerged and destroyed household food supplies, including rice, cooking oil and salt, creating an urgent need for food aid.

“Our rice, cooking oil, salt and other food supplies were submerged and destroyed by the floodwaters, so we urgently need food assistance. The rain has also not completely stopped, so we are in urgent need of temporary shelter,” said a resident.

Local sources said flood-affected communities are also in need of medicines, healthcare services, blankets, mosquito nets and essential hygiene items, including toothpaste and soap.

Although floodwaters have begun to recede, residents warned that intermittent rainfall continues and could trigger further flooding.

Some displaced residents have started returning to their homes as water levels fall. However, many houses have been damaged, and affected communities are seeking assistance to repair their homes and recover from the flooding. – Reporting by Ben
